This time, our camper took us to the south of France, to Provence 💜. The destination was, of course, the blooming lavender, but is Provence just those vast purple fields? We traveled far and wide, seeing countless beautiful and incredible places, including many UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We visited the region's capital, the infamous Marseille. We strolled through Avignon, the city of the popes, and Orange, full of ancient Roman monuments. We followed the footsteps of Van Gogh in Arles and the Monastery of St. Paul de Mausole, home to the psychiatric hospital where the master was treated. Both places were where most of his greatest works were created. We wandered the orange ochre paths in Roussillon. We climbed to incredible hilltop towns like Simiane-la-Rotonde, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Gordes, and Les Baux-de-Provence. We saw the enormous aqueducts of Pont du Gard and Roquefavour. We visited a fairytale-like village of stone houses, the Village de Bories, and the Abbey de Senanque, surrounded by hills and lavender fields. In the Camargue reserve, we rode through rice paddies, seeing wild white horses grazing there, and flocks of pink flamingos in the salt pans. We were captivated by the Mediterranean coast, the Côte Bleue, although it wasn't camper- or dog-friendly. 🐶 We also cruised the gigantic Verdon Gorge, a must-see attraction in that region. And, of course, we enjoyed the lavender; after all, it was our main goal. The long winter and late spring meant it wasn't in full bloom yet, but it still looked beautiful. Did we see everything? Absolutely not! There are still places to see here for more trips like this. That's good, because it always gives us a reason to return.
