A Musical Prayer for Peace: Slavyanka Chorus June 2022

In June, 2022 Slavyanka Chorus, under the musical direction of Irina Shachneva sang "A Prayer for Peace," a free concert in San Francisco, California of both Russian and Ukrainian choral music classics. Audience members were invited to donate to one of the many relief organizations that are providing for the needs of civilians displaced and wounded by the war in Ukraine. WHY THIS CONCERT AND THIS THEME? For over forty years, Slavyanka Chorus has worked to create deeper understanding and appreciation between Americans and the peoples of Russia and Eastern Europe. Especially for those of us with friends and relatives there, it’s intensely painful to see that part of the world torn apart in war. Whatever else we do in response, we can do these three things: • We can pray for peace, in whatever form and language is real in our own life; • We can offer material help to those whose lives have been shattered by violence; and • We can re-commit ourselves to keeping the deep threads of human connection unbroken - especially at times like now when those threads come under great stress. Music is the way we in Slavyanka work to keep those threads unbroken. https://www.slavyankachorus.org/ Concert Program: Mixed Choir 1. Pilgrim Song 00:00 2. Pomyshl’aju D’en’ strashnyj 03:45 3.
