The musical Les Misérables, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, arrives at the Barcelona Teatre Musical (BTM) presented by Stage Entertainment with a new version created by Cameron Mackintosh, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the show's premiere in Great Britain. The cast includes Geronimo Rauch, Ignasi Vidal, Virginia Carmona, Talia del Val, and Daniel Diges. After 25 years of critical and popular acclaim, Les Misérables comes to Barcelona with a revamped production presented by Stage Entertainment. The musical, based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, is the longest-running musical in history, having premiered in 1985. The production company has chosen Barcelona to present its largest production to date. Audiences have been able to enjoy this version of Les Misérables, created by Cameron Mackintosh himself to commemorate the show's 25th anniversary, since September 30th. Les Misérables is an epic tale of redemption, the story of Jean Valjean, a man fleeing the relentless law—not justice—in post-revolutionary France, whose destiny over the years leads him to encounter the love and courage of a few and the misery of many. The beauty of this story continues to captivate audiences. The success of Les Misérables stems from the stage adaptation, produced by Cameron Mackintosh and directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, and from the timelessness of the masterpiece on which it is based: Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables. More than 130 years later, the themes explored in the play remain relevant and resonate with audiences, such as the struggle for freedom, courage, and peace for the people. Les Misérables premiered at London's Barbican Theatre on October 8, 1985, and on that day began to make history in musical theatre. The production moved to the Palace Theatre on December 4, 1985, and has been playing at the Queen Theatre since April 3, 2004. The Broadway version opened on March 12, 1987. Since then, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's Les Misérables, with a libretto by Herbert Kretzmer and directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, has toured the world, winning many of the most prestigious awards, including eight Tony Awards. Stage Entertainment has been committed to bringing shows previously only available on Broadway or in London's West End to a wider audience. Thus, major hits such as "Mamma Mia!", "Cabaret", "The Phantom of the Opera", "Cats", "Beauty and the Beast", "Chicago", and "Saturday Night Fever" have graced stages across the country, attracting over 9 million spectators to musicals produced by Stage Entertainment. Furthermore, they are premiering the long-awaited classic, "Les Misérables", coinciding with the 25th anniversary of this legendary British musical.
