Massenet - Roi de Lahore - Sutherland, Morris, Tourangeau, Opthof / Gamley - Vancouver 28 sept 1977

This is a fine audio recording, made in the public in the stalls, thats why the voices are very forward in the recording ! There was a fine cast, only the tenor did not have the right voice for the part, should have been a bit more mellow and French. The opera was premiered in Paris in april 1877. Here after 100 years the Vancouver as well as the Seattle opera brought this wonderful piece by Massenet to the stage ! This series of performances was the only occasion Joan Sutherland sang the role of Sita. The pictures were made at the dressrehearsel in september !
