Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing (reprise) (Bowie cover)

The received wisdom pigeonholes this album as an homage to Orwell's '1984' --not surprising given the explicit references to that novel. But I've always felt Diamond Dogs bears Burroughs' imprimatur more than anything, especially in the Sweet Thing sequence. I fancy the falsetto 'if you want it boys, get it here then.' Bowie's attempt at a Burroughs impersonation. Bowiologists can correct me, but I think the two met in late '73, in fact during the DD recording sessions. The extended quote in the vid is an emblemmatic passage from Burrough's 'The Lost Boys: A Book of the Dead'.
