SCHAAKEN CASTLE is a medieval castle complex, one of many in East Prussia, part of which now lies in the Kaliningrad Oblast. Chronicles of the Order indicate that the fortress of Schaaken was founded on the site of a Prussian fortress around 1270. Today, Schaaken is one of the few remaining monuments of the past, experiencing a rebirth. For several years now, the castle gates have once again opened to visitors.
