During the 1960s and 1970s and uptill 2000's, before his landmark album The Unforgettable took the world by storm, Jagjit Ji survived and thrived in Bombay by writing, composing, and singing some of the most iconic advertisement jingles in Indian broadcasting history. 📻 1967: The Turning Point of Vividh Bharati On November 1, 1967, Vividh Bharati officially launched its commercial services, changing the landscape of Indian media forever. For Jagjit Singh, this was the ultimate breakthrough. As Jagjit Ji beautifully recalled in 2005: "I think my first real break came after 1968 when Vividh Bharati went commercial. That’s when advertising was first allowed on the broadcast medium and jingles became very popular. I started writing, composing and singing those ad jingles on radio. I particularly remember doing jingles for Orkay and Omo soap. That allowed me to make some money and for the first time, I had a steady source of income." 🦷 From Kolynos to Lifebuoy: The Masterpieces Did you know that Jagjit Ji’s very first commercial break was for Kolynos Toothpaste? Even more legendary is his connection to one of the most recognizable anthems in Indian television history: "Tandurusti Ki Raksha Karta Hai Lifebuoy." When the agency Lintas created the groundbreaking TV campaign for Lifebuoy in 1970, it was directed by Stanley Pinto, composed by Brij Bhushan Sahani, and voiced by none other than a young Jagjit Singh.
