The problem is that most of these revelations don't hold up to science. I investigate the origins of the story about the testicles being ripped out of large animals (and why no one has confirmed it for over 120 years), whether the famous armored skin is actually 6 millimeters thick, and whether the honey badger actually sprays foul-smelling secretions like a skunk. Beneath the veneer of pop culture legend lies an even more interesting animal: a real one. The honey badger has one of the best-documented resistances to snake venom in nature, based, among other things, on a subtle change in the structure of its acetylcholine receptors, which electrostatically repels cobra neurotoxins.
