20260625 Harlech Castle Trouble at Britannia Crossing

Ffestiniog 0-6-0 diesel hydraulic locomotive 'Harlech Castle' pulling a small load of freight wagons hits a snag approaching the High Street/Britannia Bridge level crossing. The driver's attempt to trigger the klaxons on this unmanned and ungated crossing forces the train to stop and a phone call was made. Watch the driver wrestle with the problem before successfully proceeding to make the crossing and travel onwards towards the Porthmadog Harbour station area. This diesel locomotive was built in the UK in 1983 for a cancelled order to haul sugar in Mozambique and was acquired by the Ffestiniog company in 1988. It was adapted for use as a dedicated loco for the permanent way dept. Subsequent overhauls have seen it modified to closely resemble its half-sister, ‘Criccieth Castle’.
