#202 – A literatura russa além dos nomões que todos conhecem
Brazilian readers have a peculiar relationship with Russian literature. Names like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky greatly influence our imagination and our ambitions when it comes to books. This attachment, however, is usually for Russian writers from the 19th and early 20th centuries. To discuss more recent literature, encompassing a good part of the 20th century and entering the first quarter of the 21st century, I invited Maria Vragova for the conversation you will hear below. Maria is Russian and has lived in Brazil for decades, where she currently runs the Ars et Vita publishing house and organizes the Artes Vertentes festival, which this year will take place between September 11th and 21st in Tiradentes, a historic city in Minas Gerais. However, the conversation is really about this Russian literature that reaches our days, as I was saying. Who are the names that deserve attention? How does it relate to the Soviet period? And today, how does Putin haunt the authors of his country? Here's the link to the Página Cinco newsletter: https://paginacinco.substack.com/ ** The link to the Artes Vertentes program: https://www.artesvertentes.com/ *** Some names mentioned in the conversation: Ivan Bunin; Andrei Platonov; Isaac Babel; Mikhail Bulgkakov; Shalamov; Nadezhda Teffi; Boris Pasternak; Andrei Bely; Valentin Rasputin; Ilya Erenburg; Dmitri Bykov; Maria Stepanova; Egana Djabarova. **** The illustration for the episode was done by Anna Cunha for the Ars et Vita edition of "Love for the Fatherland and Other Stories" by Andrei Platonov.
