The impact of fermented foods on the human immune system: Stanford Thesis Defense 2021 Hannah Wastyk

This is my PhD thesis defense at Stanford that took place on July 22, 2021! I started graduate school for a PhD in bioengineering in 2017, right after completing my B.S. in biochemistry at the University of Delaware. I worked in Justin Sonnenburg's lab and studied the relationships between the human microbiome and immune system. The defense took place entirely over zoom (in my studio apartment on campus)! Unfortunately I was only able to capture the second half of my PI's introduction, which I will upload as a separate video. My committee members were Michael Fischbach, Sean Bendall, and Susan Holmes. The committee chair was Christopher Gardner. Thanks for watching! It's an incredible privilege to have been able to receive a PhD at Stanford and it was a lot of fun (nervous, stressful fun) to be able to share everything I've worked on in Sonnenburg Lab. In addition, it's rare we are able to have such a platform to thank the people that have touched our lives an I was so happy to be able to share those who have been instrumental in mine during the acknowledgements. Always happy to answer any questions about grad school or the work I have completed here. Please feel free to reach out at hcwinbox[at]gmail.com!
