On September 22, 1981, hijackers hijacked a plane flying from Warsaw to Słupsk. Aside from the crew, there were fifty passengers on board. About 20 minutes after takeoff, three attackers, including a woman – who proved to be the most dangerous of the group – terrorized one of the flight attendants, then threatened to set the plane on fire and demanded a flight to Berlin Tempelhof Airport. The captain managed to capitalize on a moment of inattention by one of the hijackers and inform air traffic control about the hijacking. Counter-terrorism units in Warsaw, under the command of Jerzy Dziewulski, carried out a daring operation to fake a flight to Berlin, land the plane in Warsaw, and – for the first time in history – recapture the plane from the terrorists while it was still taxiing on the tarmac. The skirmish with the hijackers was so spectacular that it inspired an episode of the TV series "07 zgłoś się!" Jerzy Dziewulski, commander of the operation to rescue the hijacked plane, former police officer, counterterrorist officer, MP, and head of President Kwaśniewski's personal security detail, reveals the details of the operation in an interview with Karolina Opolska, recounts its progress, and recounts the dramatic scenes that unfolded on board the plane.
