BMW R 1250 GS (2022) rijtest

The BMW R 1250 GS remains the absolute favorite in the Netherlands. But is that really justified? Adventure bikes and crossovers are currently extremely popular in the Netherlands. Looking at the top twenty of 2021, more than half are motorcycles of this type. Naked motorcycles are in second place in terms of popularity. One in 16 newly registered motorcycles in 2021 was a BMW R 1250 GS. This model was registered a whopping 971 times in 2021, making it by far the most popular motorcycle on the Dutch market. The Kawasaki Z900 is in second place with 516 units. A small caveat: BMW Motorrad often pulls out all the stops just before New Year's Eve by registering a whole bunch of motorcycles at the last minute. But even then, the difference with the number two is too great. The R 1250 GS has been the favorite in the Netherlands for years. But why is that? What makes this machine different from, say, a Suzuki V-Strom 1050 or a Ducati Multistrada? It's certainly not the cheapest motorcycle on the market. Prices for the BMW R 1250 GS start at just under €21,000 in the Netherlands. Private leasing is also available, starting at €585 per month. With a few options, that price quickly increases. This example in Triple Black, for example, costs €27,631. It also includes the necessary packages (comfort, touring, and dynamic). These three packages together cost a hefty €2,500. Cross-spoke wheels, LED headlights, and a comprehensive lighting package further increase the price. Standard features include LED lighting all around, a TFT color display with connectivity, dynamic traction control, ABS Pro, three riding modes (Eco, Rain, and Road), Hill Start Control, and a USB charging port. So, why is it so popular? This is particularly due to its handling and technical composition. A shaft drive makes the long-distance rider especially happy, as it requires less maintenance. Furthermore, the R 1250 GS feels exceptionally light-footed. It may weigh 249 kilograms ready to ride, but it feels like only 190 kilograms. Only when maneuvering the bike in the garage is that weight noticeable. So, it's time to flex your muscles. Even the rookie who climbs on a GS for the first time will immediately feel at home. It's a true all-rounder. The excellent balance is also partly due to the power source. The R 1250 GS has a two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine with two overhead camshafts and variable intake camshaft control, called BMW ShiftCam. We're happy to explain BMW ShiftCam. Essentially, the intake camshafts have two cams, one so-called "slow" and one "wild." Under high throttle, a compact electric motor moves the camshaft, allowing the valves to open faster and wider. This allows a richer fuel mixture to enter the cylinder chambers, resulting in more power. Honda's VTEC works similarly. The boxer engine is a true torquey engine. The 1,254 cc boxer engine delivers 136 hp at 7,750 rpm and 143 Nm at 6,250 rpm. That's a lot of torque for a motorcycle. And it's precisely that torque that makes for a truly enjoyable ride. Downshifting isn't always necessary. Simply give it a bit more throttle and you're good to go. The seat height is 850 mm, but you can reduce it to 800 Nm with a lowering kit, making a GS suitable for even smaller riders. Thanks to a 20-liter fuel tank, you can travel well over 350 kilometers on a tank. The R 1250 GS is practically the flagship of BMW Motorrad. Without the GS, BMW wouldn't have sold very well. The machine has achieved cult status. Partly due to word-of-mouth advertising—a good product sells itself, after all. But it's also because the GS remains a machine that appeals to many riders, despite its hefty starting price. It's a truly wonderful ride, accessible to a wide range of people, and suitable for a variety of trips: commuting, weekend rides, or a world trip. It's an all-around machine. The favorite of the Dutch motorcycling community. Anything but distinctive, but simply good. #BMWMotorrad #R1250GS Don't forget to subscribe! 👉https://www.youtube.com/user/autoblog...
