18 May - Day for Women In Maritime 2021 - A message by Dinah Inape-Omenefa, Chairperson, PacWIMA.
This year, PacWIMA ran a weeklong online campaign, celebrating 18 May as the Day for Women In Maritime with the theme “Women in Maritime: Resilience and Leadership amidst a global pandemic”. The weeklong online campaign saw women from around the region responding to the theme to highlight what the theme means to them and more particularly, the significance of the Day for Women in Maritime, we showcased a video of Ms. Nanise Kabakoro, a port engineer in the Pacific and whose story is the epitome of resilience and leadership amidst the global pandemic and through this campaign, we also raised awareness and support for women in maritime. As the Chairperson of PacWIMA, I extend a warm THANK YOU to the various regional women in maritime associations from the Caribbean, Central, Eastern, Southern and West Africa, Arab, Latin America, Asia. We acknowledge the support from WIMA Africa, WISTA International and national Associations, as well and are grateful for the support rendered through the PacWIMA member associations in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. And also at the same time, a warm thank you is also extended to our friends at the leading maritime training institutions at World Maritime University, IMO International Maritime Law Institute and the Galilee International Management Institute for supporting this campaign. Without the support of our partners, SPC and IMO, this celebration would have not been made possible. #18May #OurDayYourDayD4WIM #IMO #SPC #SDG5
