U.S. Generals Opposed Vietnam War Intervention 1950–1954, First Indochina War and the French Fight

Extremely rare film and photos on how U.S. Military Generals in the early 1950s quelched both French and Washington elite political circles efforts to deploy U.S. combat forces into Vietnam during the French fight against the communist Viet Minh (First Indochina War). I’ll show you this tension, this pull, between these forces that wanted to deploy combat forces to support the French War effort, and how the U.S. military leaders opposed the effort and the arguments they used. Throughout the early 1950s, these U.S. armed leaders – with very few exceptions - argued and worked against direct military involvement in the First Indochina war to assist the French more than any other institution, in or outside of government, even as they understood Southeast Asia might be lost to communism.
