Is It Black Joy or Is It "Ghetto"? Respectability Politics & Policing Black People at Graduations

Every single year around graduation season, prom season too, which is another video for another day, we see Black graduates celebrating their accomplishments in the form of dancing and other means of expressing joy at their graduations. Aaaaand like clockwork, the criticism, negativity, racism, vitriol, and antiblackness follows in short order. Black joy seems to elicit such a visceral reaction that many are calling "black fatigue" but let's be honest, this is just straight up racism hiding behind the shield of respectability politics which some within the community have bought into, to what benefit though?  #blackjoy #respectabilitypolitics #graduationseason
