Hand drilling a rock climbing anchor in 4 minutes 30 seconds
Over the past few years I have worked on perfecting the hammer, drill holder and drill bits used to hand drill bolt holes for rock climbing anchors. I call the hammer a DAMMERR and the drill holder is my bayonet type. The bit is a standard Makita 3/8" x 6 1/4" SDS Plus bit that I have sharpened. Details about the development of the hammer and holder can be found on the SuperTopo climbing forum. More about hammers at DAMMERR.com. The hole is only 2-1/8" deep but this is adequate for the 3/8" 316 SS wedge anchors that I use if placed in good granite. In softer rock you would want to use a longer bolt. I haven't been drilling much lately and you can see that I am tired by the end. More info at: http://dammerr.com/
