Why Heat is the Important Element of Burnishing Wood before applying Finish.
While heat is the moral enemy of sanding it is the purpose of burnishing. For as long as I know burnishing has been presented as the last form of abrasive. One so fine it polished as much as abraded. Or maybe that's all my pea brain absorbed in that learning cycle. I now know different. And the reason is lignin. That is the adhesive between wood fibers that holds it all together.
