Skip the Main Dining Room on Royal Caribbean - yes or no?

A lot of first-time Royal Caribbean cruisers plan to skip the Main Dining Room because the Windjammer buffet seems faster, easier, and less intimidating. And some nights, the buffet really is the better choice. But the Royal Caribbean Main Dining Room is about more than the menu. With traditional dining, you usually have the same table and dining team each night, and that’s where the experience can become more personal. Your servers may remember your drinks, what bread you like, what your kids will actually eat, and sometimes they go out of their way to make dinner feel special. You do not have to eat in the Main Dining Room every night. You do not need to dress like you’re going to a wedding. And gratuities are a separate topic, not a reason to avoid trying it. But if this is your first Royal Caribbean cruise, I think the MDR is worth trying at least once before deciding it isn’t for you.
