A brush and vegetation fire broke out in the late morning of Tuesday, July 22, in the Belpasso area, in the province of Catania. Fanned by the wind, the flames quickly spread to the areas along the edges of Provincial Road 4. A Canadair and two helicopters, including an Erickson from the Forestry Corps, were in action. "All of a sudden, I couldn't understand anything anymore. In a quarter of an hour, I don't know what happened," said a Belpasso businessman, describing the moments in which the fire broke out. The flames destroyed two of his cars. "If the helicopters had arrived at least a quarter of an hour earlier," he added, "what happened wouldn't have happened."
