SHINE, pt.2 - Holy

In a world that constantly pressures us toward conformity, holiness offers a radically different way of living that makes believers shine like stars in darkness. True holiness isn't simply about moral behavior or being better than the surrounding culture - it's rooted in the fundamental reality that we belong to God. When we understand that we've been bought with a price through Christ's sacrifice, our entire perspective on life changes. We're no longer our own, but temples of the Holy Spirit called to glorify God in everything we do. Holy living requires both active departure from what dishonors God and intentional pursuit of what delights Him. Like Joseph fleeing from Potiphar's wife or Daniel refusing the king's food, sometimes holiness means running from temptation rather than trying to manage it. Paul describes this transformation as changing spiritual clothes - putting off lying, stealing, and corrupt speech while putting on truth-telling, honest work, and words that build others up. This isn't passive drift but an intentional chase after righteousness, faith, love, and peace. The modern challenge to holiness is particularly acute in our media-saturated culture. When the average person spends over 16,000 hours on social media in a decade compared to just 468 hours receiving biblical instruction, we must ask what's really discipling our hearts. God calls us to holiness not to restrict our joy but to make us useful vessels for His service. When we agree with God about what honors Him and live accordingly, we become available for the good work He wants to accomplish through us, discovering the abundant life we were truly meant to live.
