The 2025 presidency of the Eurasian Economic Union will pass from Armenia to Belarus. This was announced today, December 26, during a meeting of the EAEU Supreme Council in the Leningrad Region. During the meeting, the heads of state agreed not to speak at this meeting as an exception. "Given Belarus's presidency of the EAEU, I propose holding the summer meeting in Minsk and combining it with the Eurasian Economic Forum, as stipulated in the statutory documents. I will not deviate from established practice and propose organizing these events in May, approximately May 29 of next year. If you have any changes or proposals, we will make an additional decision during the consultations. I would also like to ask our observers, if they are interested in the EAEU, to attend the meetings rather than talk on television about how they will cooperate with us," said Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he had no objections to the meeting being held in Minsk, but their delegation would participate via videoconference. "What's your problem? Is Minsk far away, or is there no one to give you a ride? We'll arrange transportation for your delegation, if necessary," the Belarusian president protested. "I've already made a public statement, and now is not the time to discuss this. I needed to respond immediately to avoid any misunderstandings later," Pashinyan explained. Lukashenko then said he would consider their request. The Armenian prime minister responded by declaring that his request was not subject to consideration. "Perhaps there won't be a television for you to speak," Lukashenko suggested. "From now on, no official representative of Armenia will visit Belarus as long as Lukashenko holds the presidency," Pashinyan explained, citing the Belarusian leader's involvement in the preparation of the 44-day war and his belief in Azerbaijan's victory. Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan announced that he would not attend the informal CIS summit held in Russia's Leningrad Region due to the coronavirus.
