The Benito Gonzalez Trio

Recorded live at Bird's Basement on the 23rd of January 2020 Pianist Benito Gonzalez's resume includes Jackie Mclean, Kenny Garrett, Steve Turre and Pharoah Sanders.  Benito was joined by the virtuoso rhythm section of Phillip Rex on bass and Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums.  Marvin "Smitty" Smith has toured with Sting, Dave Holland, Sonny Rollins, Willie Nelson, Steve Coleman, Terrence Blanchard and Pharoah Sanders. Phillip Rex has performed or recorded with Joe Lovano, George Garzone, Johnny Griffin, Paul Grabowsky, Joe Chindamo, Renee Geyer and Cindy Blackman Santana.  Together at Bird's, they celebrated the music and legacy of jazz legend McCoy Tyner.
