Groundbreaking for the Buckwalter Recreation Athletic Complex Expansion (BRACE) project

On June 30, Beaufort County joined the Town of Bluffton, Nix Construction, Wood and Partners, and Davis and Floyd to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Buckwalter Recreation Athletic Complex Expansion (BRACE) project. This expansion will bring four new multipurpose fields with renovated facilities, infrastructure, and lighting to one of Beaufort County's most-visited recreation centers. With a soccer program that brought over 100,000 visits in 2025, Beaufort County Parks and Recreation is grateful to be able to expand its offerings and capacity for families in our community. The expansion is expected to be complete within two years, and reflects a continued commitment to enhancing quality of life for our community for generations to come. "Every game played here, every practice held, every tournament hosted, and every family that spends time together on these fields will be part of the legacy we begin creating today," said Deputy Administrator Nicole Wood. "This project represents over 14 million dollars invested into supporting our community through the expansion of recreational opportunities for our residents and visitors."
