#Interconnected Too Hot To Work: Progress and Challenges in Heat Legislation for Worker Protection
Despite rising temperatures, progress in policies to protect workers from extreme heat has been slow. This session will examine the advancements and ongoing challenges in developing heat protection policies for workers. We’ll discuss the current state of legislation and the necessary steps to ensure worker safety in increasingly hot climates. She reports on the intersections of climate change and development and livelihoods, rural communities, agriculture, and food systems. Jason Lee is an associate professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He co-leads the Human Potential Translational Research Programme and directs the Heat Resilience and Performance Centre. Jani Purnawanty has been a lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate programs and a researcher since 1998. Her expertise includes international trade law, the law of treaties, cyber law, and bioethics in the cross-cutting issues perspective. Purnawanty is active in several study centers, including the Airlangga Institute for International Law Studies (AIILS), Study Group on Law and Technology, law supporting SDGs, anti-corruption and criminal law policy, and renewable and sustainable energy. Achmad Dahlan is an experienced safety and health professional with extensive leadership roles in the oil and gas industry. He serves as the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) performance manager at PT Pertamina (Persero). His career spans over two decades, with a strong focus on safety engineering, risk management, and human performance in both national and international contexts.
