CIBIANA DI CADORE, IL BORGO DEI MURALES

Cibiana di Cadore, in the Belluno province, is a beautiful village at the foot of the magnificent Sassolungo Dolomite massif, nestled in the valley crossed by the Rita stream. A charming, traditional place, reminiscent of a history steeped in mountains and simplicity, but also of hard work, sacrifice, and pain. Many unique features make this jewel of the Cadore region an almost unique tourist attraction. Thanks to the intuition of Osvaldo Da Col and Vico Calabrò, since 1980 it has become the town of murals, splendid frescoes that adorn the old houses of the village and tell the story of the people of Cibiana. Beyond the beauty of the depictions, the underlying idea is worthy: to create an attraction to prevent the depopulation of the town, a sadly slow but unstoppable phenomenon. And so today, especially in the summer, Cibiana is a tourist pilgrimage destination, with hundreds of people coming to admire these masterpieces created by artists from around the world. The murals bring to life traditions, ancient crafts, events that have shaped the life of the village, and much more. But the theme that stands out most is that of emigration, a phenomenon that, in times past, greatly affected Cibiana, the Cadore area, the Belluno area, and many other areas in the Veneto region and beyond. Looking at these frescoes is like immersing yourself completely in the story of a true-life romance, magnificently captured in its beauty and authenticity.
