Altering an Old Book for Junk Journal July! ⚓ (Low Cost Easy Expanded Spine Tutorial)
Altering an Old Book for Junk Journal July! ⚓ (Easy Expanded Spine Tutorial) Hello everyone, and welcome back to The Vintage Button! Today, we are officially starting to prepare my book cover for Junk Journal July UK. I am using that beautiful 1940s book about British Ports and Harbours that I rescued from a village red telephone box free library. In this video, I am taking the "guts" out of the vintage book and expanding the spine so it is wide enough to hold everything we want to make during the challenge. I show you a really easy, sustainable method to do this using a simple cereal packet! By using the chipboard from the cereal packet, I create a sturdy hinge spine to widen the book covers. To finish and reinforce the new, wider spine, I shopped my fabric stash and found a lovely blue and green tweed. It makes the journal incredibly strong and fits the maritime theme perfectly. In our next video, we will look at gathering the papers and sewing three generous signatures into a floating spine. So, grab your current project, make a warm cup of tea, and let’s enjoy some slow, relaxing craft time together on the sofa. 🛋️ No Mid-Roll Ads: I choose not to put mid-roll adverts in my videos so that you can enjoy a completely peaceful, uninterrupted craft session. 🧵 New to The Vintage Button?
