I installed the underfloor heating (surface) myself, with the help of my father-in-law, in a cube-shaped house (basement 6 loops, ground floor 7 loops, first floor 8 loops) according to my own design, spacing 10 cm (7.5 cm at the HST patio windows), without a hydraulic separator or additional pumps (only the pump from the De Dietrich MCR4 24/29 MI gas boiler), 21 loops, approximately 1,500 meters (approximately 160 liters of water in the system) of PERT-AL-PERT 16x2.0 Vesbo Poland pipes. A pressure test using a 10-bar pressure test pump revealed no leaks in the entire system, no moisture on threaded connections at manifolds, etc. The water tightness test procedure was performed according to the recommendations of the pipe manufacturer, Vesbo Poland. I used a 32x3.0 PERT-AL-PERT pipe (tee system) from the boiler to the manifolds for return and supply, fittings (elbows, tees, threaded adapters), and everything works beautifully. At first, I will use the system without wired room thermostats and a controller with electric actuators on the manifolds (valves) - (manual hydraulic control using flow meters, so-called rotameters). However, if necessary (or if I want to increase the comfort of management), I will install controllers, regulators, and electric actuators on the loop valves in the manifolds, and there will be zoned temperature management. But first, without such inventions and power guzzlers. Of course, I have prepared the wiring for this possibility in the floor manifold boxes and in the rooms, so as not to mess around with batteries wirelessly. And I will install the wired controllers in the rooms (more reliable communication and no need to replace batteries every year or two in each controller - the power is supplied via the cable from the The controller). The screed will be poured in a few days, so the next step will be behind me. The thermal imaging shows everything beautifully, the flow meters are all set to 1 liter per minute. I think it will be sufficient. If necessary, I'll increase the flow rate of some loops to a higher rate and others to a lower rate, or reduce the flow rate in the basement, which will give me space for the ground floor/first floor. There are many possible combinations, and after the first winter, the optimal solution will probably emerge. But such experimentation is fun :). Maybe my video will be useful for your own considerations. I wanted to make the installation as simple as possible for the first attempt, without additional components like a hydraulic clutch, additional pumps (power guzzlers), possible failure points, etc., and I have a feeling it will be fine, i.e., the boiler itself, with its own pump, will handle it just fine. If I want to upgrade, I left some space in the basement for potential upgrades (installing a clutch, an additional powerful pump, etc.). A lot of work, planning, logistics, transport, assembly, verification, and learning is behind me, but I'm slowly getting there 😉.
