COMIDA AFRO-BRASILEIRA E EMPREENDEDORISMO NEGRO

True guardians of ancestral knowledge, Black-owned food businesses use dishes, recipes, and culinary methods rooted in the country's history as a strategy to value Afro-Brazilian heritage in its cultural integrity. Between financial autonomy and recognition of their efforts in historical continuity, stalls, brands, bars, and restaurants structured within the sector are transforming into initiatives that consolidate themselves as anti-racist agencies and as hubs for articulating local, regional, or even diasporic Black social interactions. An expression of this approach in Rio de Janeiro, Dida Bar e Restaurante articulates an Afrocentric consumption experience, identity, and belonging in a large house where family heritage collectivizes memories to create a legacy whose permanence insists on shaping the lives of Black people in Brazil's past, present, and future. This week's Canal Preto discusses the role of Black gastronomic entrepreneurship in valuing the cultural legacy of African culinary heritage and reaffirming the identity of Black Brazilians. Research Sources: Mundo Negro, Alma Preta, Veja Rio, and O Globo. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Canal Preto thanks its guests for their support, trust, and sharing of knowledge, as their contributions are the primary reference used in and for the creation of all the content published throughout the week. We thank Dida Bar e Restaurante for the space, the partnership, and the reference.
