At the age of 15, he traveled to Brazil to study at CA Juventus. In 1986, he signed a professional contract with Santos FC, the prestigious club where Pele played. After returning to Japan in 1990, he joined Yomiuri Soccer Club. In 1993, he made his J.League debut as captain of Verdy Kawasaki. He was the first J.League MVP. He played for the Japanese national team in the final Asian qualifying round for the 2016 FIFA World Cup in the USA, becoming the top scorer. In 1994, he transferred to Genoa CFC in Serie A. He returned to Verdy the following year, and in 1999, he transferred to GNK Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. After playing for Kyoto Purple Sanga and Vissel Kobe, he joined Yokohama FC in 2005. From 2023 to 2024, he was loaned to UD Oliveirense in the Portuguese second division. Since July 2024, he has played for Atlético Suzuka in the JFL.
