Последний поход К-219. Подвиг Сергея Преминина.

On October 3, 1986, in the Sargasso Sea, 1,000 km northeast of Bermuda, a fire broke out in the fourth missile compartment of the K-219 submarine as a result of the depressurization of the missile silo. As follows from the official information of that time: "In order to ensure the nuclear safety of the reactor, specialists of the electromechanical warhead were brought into the seventh compartment three times to manually lower its compensating grids." One of these specialists was the commander of the hold group of the movement division, senior lieutenant Nikolai Belikov, the other was his subordinate sailor Sergei Preminin. Belikov and Preminin took turns. They lowered three of the four bars. Due to the high temperature (about 70 ° C) Belikov lost consciousness. Left alone in the reactor compartment, Sergei Preminin shut down the reactor, but he failed to leave the compartment: the increased pressure pressed on the bulkhead. They tried to open the jammed door from the outside, but to no avail. On the morning of October 6, it was decided to evacuate the personnel to the approaching Soviet ships. At 11:03, the submarine sank while being towed to the base and sank to a depth of 5,500 meters, carrying away the body of Sergei Preminin in its hull, who remained forever at the combat post in the reactor compartment.
