Catterick Camp North Yorkshire from above with DJI Phantom

Short flight over Catterick second day, in this video you can see Hipswell Village, Hipswell Church with the garrisons main Military cemetery and Hipswell bridge. The White shops that is situated on Catterick road for many years was the only shops at camp centre before Tescos 2000 and Princess gate shopping complex 2015 was completed. Catterick road is the main road leading into and out the Garrison, as you can see the road works being carried out have caused many delays in the Garrison with many more to come as the work will be completed within 4-6 months. The flattered area you can see slightly to the right of the road works was once the military hospital. ( DKMH ) Catterick Hospital opened on the 6 October 1976 and replaced an old hutted hospital from the pre World War Two era . This new Duchess of Kent Military Hospital ( DKMH ) cost £3 million to build. It closed on the 1 July 1999 after a review of the Army Medical Services though a psychiatric unit remained which provided 20 in patient beds and an out patient department. No sectioned patients were admitted and these were cared for at NHS secure units. There was another defence review by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in the year 2001 which resulted in the Duchess of Kent’s Psychiatric Unit closing. The housing estate you can see to the left is Albermarle Drive estate, it once belonged to the MOD for serving soldiers and their family's before the MOD sold them off to the public and soldiers wanting to buy a home. Catterick Garrison continues to grow with many military houses being built and talks of more schools including a new modern Military hospital for civilian and military personal.
