El humanismo propone un brindis. Con Luis Alberto de Cuenca
What can the humanities offer contemporary man? The answer is simple: they seek to cultivate and develop habits of grasping truth, appreciating beauty, and embodying goodness through the appropriate presentation of fundamental content and examples. Philosophy teaches us to seek the what, the why, the how, and the meaning of reality; Art teaches us to appreciate and understand beauty; Ethics shows us the appropriate path and seeks justice; Literature teaches the synthesis of beauty, truth, and goodness; History teaches us to prudently incorporate the wisdom of those who came before us; the study of languages, Philology, opens us to other cultural worlds with their specific references. We can affirm that a person who acquires the habits and knowledge of these broad areas of study is capable of possessing a balanced personality, one that focuses its interest on people and aims to contribute, from its position, to building a more just, free, and compassionate society. We will discuss with the academic the updating of training in the humanities. #LuisAlbertodeCuenca holds a doctorate in Classical Philology and has held prominent positions such as Secretary of State for Culture of Spain (2000-2004) and Director of the National Library and the Institute of Philology at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In 2010, he was elected to the Royal Academy of History. His poetic work began in 1971 with Los retratos and continued with Elsinore (Madrid, Azur, 1972), Scholia (Barcelona, Antoni Bosch, 1978), and Necrofilia (Madrid, Cuadernillos de Madrid, 1983), in the tradition of culturalist poetry. Irony, colloquial language, detachment, and the blending of the everyday and the literary are perceptible traits from La caja de plata (Seville, Renacimiento, 1985), which won the Critics' Prize in 1986. El otro sueño (Seville, Renacimiento, 1987), El hacha y la rosa (Seville, Renacimiento, 1993), Por fuertes y fronteras (Madrid, Visor, 1996), and El bosque y otros poemas (Málaga, Llama de amor viva, 1997) complete his poetic work, which he compiled, revised and reworked, with the exception of the first book, in *Los mundos y los días*. His verses have even been featured in popular songs by artists such as Loquillo and the renowned Orquesta Mondragón. In 2015, he received the National Poetry Prize for "the excellence of his style" in *Cuadernos de vacaciones*. The jury describes the work as “one of the most existentially and symbolically compelling poetic contributions” in recent Spanish poetry. #TooHuman is a series of dialogues led by Dr. José Antonio Trujillo, borrowing its title from the expression coined by Nietzsche in his book. Its aim is to explore major humanist themes through the lens of renowned authors in these complex times. In a bold yet accessible way, we will converse to shed light on some of the contemporary spaces of current social debate. The commitment is to continue growing as individuals and as a society by sharing reflections, doubts, and certainties. 🔸 More information about the series and other events ☞ https://cclamalagueta.com/ciclos_even... #LaMalaguetaCulturalCenter of the #MálagaProvincialCouncil
