Extensive small ruminant livestock farming—sheep and goats—is one of the pillars of the rural economy and land management in Spain, particularly important in mountain areas, dehesas (pasturelands), and areas at risk of depopulation. However, the sector faces a critical structural challenge: the lack of generational renewal. This problem is compounded by the historical invisibility of women in the livestock sector, despite their fundamental contribution, both in direct farming and in management, breeding, and product processing. Women livestock farmers continue to encounter specific barriers to access—to land, financing, professional recognition, and support networks—that hinder their entry into and retention within the sector. At GO PREVINOVIC, we are clear on this: supporting women and generational renewal in extensive sheep and goat farming is not only a sectoral or social issue, but also an investment in landscape management, prevention, and territorial resilience.
