Women from various regions of Brazil have fallen victim to a scheme involving plastic surgery packages advertised on social media. Attracted by below-market prices and easy payment terms, they found themselves trapped in a complicated situation when the promised procedures failed to take place. One of those affected is a woman from São Paulo who lost 75 kilos and was seeking reconstructive surgery to remove excess skin. She found an advertisement on a website and negotiated the surgeries with Andressa Maria Ferreira. After paying R$ 25,000 in installments for operations scheduled for last November, she discovered that nothing had been scheduled upon arriving at the clinic. The signed contract only mentioned installments, without specifying dates or locations of the procedures. The victim filed a police report for fraud; the Public Security Secretariat is awaiting a formal criminal complaint from her. Other women have also reported similar experiences on social media as a warning about the scam. Another victim from Paraná paid R$ 26,500 and traveled to São Paulo without concrete information about the hospital or doctor involved in the procedures planned for January of this year—repeatedly postponed by the company responsible under the pretext of financial difficulties.
