Billions spent to bail out SOEs
The South African taxpayers funded more than R500 billion to bail out the country's failing SOEs in just over a decade. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said this at the launch of the World Bank report earlier this year. Eskom, SAA and South African National Roads Agency also received the biggest chunk of the bailout. Econometrix chief economist at Azar Jammine discusses this further.
