Ronaldo, in turn, allegedly invited Douglas to participate in a supposed robbery of the premises. After the crime, Maria attempted to stage a robbery-homicide, claiming that money and a weapon had been stolen. Suspicions against her increased when she quickly sought information about financial benefits at the police station shortly after her husband's death. During the initial investigations, she was detained for illegal possession of weapons, but was later released. Ronaldo confessed to participating in the trial and revealed details of the negotiations with Maria Fran, highlighting promises not kept by the widow. He stated: "If I could go back, none of this would have happened." The case drew attention due to the coldness with which Maria continued her daily life while plotting against Arnaldo.
