BTS “NORMAL” MEANS A LOT MORE THAN I THOUGHT

NORMAL by: ‪@BTS‬ ‪@HYBELABELS‬ ARMY, I already knew and enjoyed “NORMAL,” but reacting to the music video made me realize the song carried much more weight than I originally thought. At first, I interpreted “NORMAL” as BTS wanting to escape fame, pressure and expectations so they could experience an ordinary life. The more I watched the BTS “NORMAL” MV, though, the more that interpretation began to change. The love, the hate, the injuries, the exhaustion and the parts of themselves the public may never fully understand are not temporary moments for them. That chaos has become their normal. Watching the official music video gave the song an entirely different feeling. The visuals constantly contrast freedom and celebration with emotional weight, physical pain and the reality of living under nonstop attention. The transitions are incredibly smooth, the cinematography is beautiful and nearly every scene feels like it could carry a deeper meaning. During the reaction, I knew there was more happening beneath the surface, but I did not fully connect everything until I revisited the MV while editing. BTS once again created something that works as a great song while also giving ARMY plenty of symbolism, theories and deeper meaning to discuss.
