Simulation Showcase Series 2025: Webinar 1: Thermal Comfort and Implementation
Presented by: IBPSA-USA's EPSI Committee, featuring Mohammad Mahdi Mohammadi, Mohammed Umar, and Divyanshu Sood. Welcome to the Simulation Showcase Series 2025 hosted by the IBPSA-USA Emerging Professionals and Students (EPSI) Committee! In this webinar, students and early-career professionals present innovative projects that use building performance simulation to address real-world challenges in thermal comfort, indoor environmental quality, and sustainable building design. This session focuses on Thermal Comfort and Implementation, highlighting how simulation tools, data-driven methods, and building science research can improve occupant comfort while supporting energy-efficient and climate-responsive design. The Simulation Showcase Series features short spotlight presentations (10–15 minutes each) followed by audience Q&A. Selected presenters are evaluated by reviewers, and the top three finalists will be recognized at SimBuild 2026 in Minneapolis. 🎤 Featured Presenters Mohammad Mahdi Mohammadi Ph.D. Candidate at Poznan University of Technology Mohammad’s research focuses on energy-efficient building design, natural ventilation, and simulation-based optimization. His work explores thermal comfort and natural ventilation strategies in residential buildings under climate change using tools such as Autodesk CFD, OpenFOAM, and DesignBuilder. Divyanshu Sood Energy Systems Researcher at University College Dublin Divyanshu’s PhD research developed machine-learning-based occupancy models and multi-objective optimization frameworks to improve energy performance, occupant comfort, and indoor air quality in residential buildings. Mohammed Umar Assistant Manager (Innovation & Research) at Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) An architect turned building energy professional specializing in whole-building performance analysis, HVAC optimization, and data-driven simulation to support decarbonization and healthy building design. 📌 What You’ll Learn -How simulation tools support thermal comfort analysis -Applications of CFD and optimization methods in building design -Integrating machine learning and occupancy modeling in energy simulations -Strategies for improving comfort, ventilation, and indoor environmental quality 🔔 Stay Connected Subscribe to the IBPSA-USA YouTube channel for more webinars Visit the IBPSA-USA website to explore upcoming events and resources Follow the Simulation Showcase Series as we feature student projects leading up to SimBuild 2026 IBPSA-USA is the United States regional affiliate of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA).
