Hugh Jackman hosts the 2019 Global Teacher Prize ceremony

"Legend of stage and screen Hugh Jackman hosts the 2019 edition of the Global Teacher Prize, an annual ceremony celebrating the impact of teachers everywhere, their impact on future generations, and the differences that unite every educator - whatever the difficulties they face, finding a way to enrich the lives of their students and community through education. During the ceremony, the winner of this year's $1m Global Teacher Prize is announced. This year's main recognition fell to Peter Tabichi, a science teacher of Keriko Secondary School in Nakuru, Kenya. A devout Franciscan brother, Tabichi gives away 80% of his salary to the poor, focusing his energy and ambition on the betterment of his community and his students. ""This is a great surprise. His dedication, hard work and passionate belief in his student’s talent has led his poorly-resourced school in remote rural Kenya to emerge victorious after taking on the country’s best schools in national science competitions. In poorly equipped classrooms, with infrastructural challenges many teachers around the world would take for granted, he has mentored his students to excel nationally, consider their community, and nurture their skills to meet great challenges themselves.
