GX011837 39 40 Swimming up Burwell Lode from Burwell, Cambridgeshire into the lowering sun
On 3 July 2026, getting into Burwell Lode at Burwell, it was strangely fishless, apart from very scared Perch, having suffered vegetation clearance, apart from in one short reach, which was absolutely packed with fish, all behaving in quite a stressed way. This is swimming back down, with the setting sun behind me, among Bleak (Alburnus alburnus, busy feeding), Common Roach (Rutilus rutilus, some damaged or diseased) and European Perch (Perca fluviatilis) the dominant species, with Common Dace (Leuciscus leuciscus) and Silver Bream (Blicca bjoerkna) plus fish fry in the bankside macrophytes.
