Indahnya Waduk Jatiluhur

One of Indonesia's construction masterpieces, initiated by the first president, Ir. Soekarno, began in 1957. Besides being a hydroelectric power plant, it is also a major source of raw water for Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek). With a water potential of 12.9 billion m3 per year, the construction of this reservoir, which dams the Citarum River, took 10 years and was completed on August 26, 1967. Upon completion, the Jatiluhur Reservoir was inaugurated by Indonesia's second president, General Soeharto. This first multi-purpose reservoir in Indonesia was built by a French contractor, Compagnie Francaise d'Entreprise. The name of the dam in Purwakarta, which cost over 230 million US dollars, is the Ir. H. Djuanda Dam.
