Brittas Bay, surely one of Irelands most stunning beaches. Still a knockout even in deepest Winter!
A little sandy pathway through the dunes leads you to the magnificent Brittas Beach on the south-east coast of Ireland. The beach sits on the Irish Sea in Brittas Bay in County Wicklow, about 12 Km south of Wicklow Town. A lot of work goes into these videos. You can now buy me a pint as a means of appreciation for my work on Naked Ireland, no obligation, obviously - only if you can afford it... I appreciate it. Cheers. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/NakedIre... The dunes and grassland area (full of interesting fauna and flora) are designated a Special Area of Conservation and in themselves they cover around 100 hectares When checking out this incredible beach, bear in mind that we’ve visiting in winter. Imagine this place with the sunlight illuminating the golden powdery sand. The beach stretches for two and a half miles. Actually it’s a great place to visit out of season as Brittas Bay is within striking distance of Dublin and in the summer don’t be surprised to find hoards of Dubliners enjoying themselves along this strand. As you can see in the film, that’s not a problem in Winter. This area was inhabited by Pirate Captain Jack White in the 17th Century. His headquarters was near here in a place called Jack’s Hole from which he organised various types of theft and smuggling. He would steal merchandise from British ships, but he would also import goods from France without paying any duty, which again annoyed the British somewhat. Now of course goods flow freely from the continent to Ireland and vise versa, because of its EU membership. Alas, the same can’t be said anymore for our neighbours on the other side of this Irish Sea. The 2002 Film adaption of the Count of Monty Christo was shot on location here. Indeed the south East coast has been portrayed in other famous films – Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, for example, was shot in Ballinesker Beach, south of here in adjacent County Wexford. The light on this beach at this time of year. It has a peculiar beauty all of its own. The place is popular with bathers, even in Winter, but also with surfers, and you regularly see horse riding on the beach here. Visit Wicklow Site: https://visitwicklow.ie/listing/britt...
