Doug Caulkins is Prof. emeritus of Anthropology at Grinnell College. Hamsun, was a Norwegian writer of the late 19th and early 20 centuries. Hamsun is considered a pioneer of psychological literature and a significant influence on authors from Kafka to Hemingway.
