Following the death of the composer and founder of the Heirassa band, Alois Schilliger (1924-2004), a diligent organizing committee and the municipality of Weggis dedicated a festival to their folk music star. Its goal is to preserve and further develop the Central Swiss style. Over the past 20 years, the Heirassa has become a fixture in the folk music calendar, and visitors can see and hear over 40 different musical ensembles over four days. The musicians of the Bühler-Fischer Ländler band are regulars at the Heirassa Festival. With their classic Central Swiss line-up, they delight audiences with compositions by the legendary Heirassa band, as well as pieces of their own composition. The name of Appezöllemusig 9050 refers to the zip code of Appenzell. The four young musicians, playing both accordion duos and dulcimers, bring Eastern Swiss music to Lake Lucerne. The two folk music stars Willi Valotti and Carlo Brunner have been responsible for the musical program at the Heirassa Festival for the past 20 years. Carlo Brunner, the successful composer and entertainer, and Willi Valotti, a former member of the Heirassa Band, have provided variety and many highlights at the festival. Now they are handing over the baton to Dani Häusler and Severin Barmettler. Before that, however, they will be on stage together once again, performing music. Of course, they will be performing a piece by Alois Schilliger with Willi's Wyberkapelle. The Bernese band Swiss Ländler Gamblers delights with virtuoso joy and musical wit, thus finding their very own style. The up-and-coming talent Flurina Plattner from Meggen, Lucerne, is one of the most promising yodelers in Switzerland. With her expressive voice and impressive stage presence, she regularly impresses the judges at singing competitions and, of course, her audiences as well. Heidi and Ruedi Wachter-Rutz of the renowned accordion duo Wachter-Rutz have shaped the Swiss folk music and accordion scene for decades. Their original compositions are unmistakable. Currently, however, the focus is on the works of Stanti Schönbächler. The composer was Ruedi Wachter's uncle. This year, Stanti would have turned 100. A concert series and a dedicated music book are being created to mark the occasion. Walter Grimm and his band participated in the first Heirassa Festival 20 years ago. Naturally, the Walter Grimm Band would not be missing from the anniversary edition. The wind player is also celebrating his own 65th birthday this year.
