Sunday, May 10, 2026. “Then Jacob called his sons and said, ‘Gather around, so that I may tell you what will happen to you in the days to come. Assemble and listen, you sons of Jacob, and listen to your father Israel. Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength; excelling in dignity, excelling in power. You are as unruly as waters, yet you shall not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled yourself by going up to my couch. Simeon and Levi are brothers; their weapons are weapons of wickedness. Let my soul not enter into their council, nor my spirit join their company.’” For in their fury they killed men, and in their recklessness they hamstrung oxen. Cursed be their fury, for it was fierce; and their anger, for it was cruel! I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons will bow down to you. Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches, he lies down like a lion, like a lioness—who dares rouse him? The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. He ties his donkey to the vine, his colt to the vine; he washes his garments in wine, and his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are red with wine, and his teeth white with milk. Zebulun will dwell in the harbors of the sea; It shall be a haven for ships, and its border to Sidon. Issachar is a strong donkey that lies down between the sheepfolds; and he saw that rest was good, and that the land was pleasant; so he bowed his shoulder to bear burdens and served as a tribute. Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent by the wayside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse's heels so that its rider tumbles backward. I have waited for your salvation, O Lord. Gad shall be an army against him; but he shall attack at last. Asher's food shall be rich, and he shall provide delicacies for the king. Naphtali is a doe set free, that speaks beautiful words. Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. They dealt bitterly with him; they shot at him with arrows; archers hated him; But his bow remained steady, and his arms were strengthened by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob (by the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel), by the God of your father, who will help you, by God Almighty, who will bless you with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the deep that lies beneath, with blessings of the breasts and of the womb. The blessings of your father were greater than the blessings of my ancestors, reaching to the utmost bounds of the everlasting hills. They will rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of him who was separated from his brothers. Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, and in the evening he divides the spoil. All these were the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, blessing each one with his own blessing. Then he commanded them, saying, “I am going to be gathered to my people.” Bury me with my ancestors in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, east of Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site. There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; there I also buried Leah. The purchase of the field and the cave that is in it belonged to the sons of Hitt.
