Red Skelton: The Lost Episodes (1990)
Red Skelton: The Lost Episodes Rescued From The Archives Of Time! Rare, Hilarious Clips and Sketches Featuring RED As: FREDDY THE FREELOADER CLEM KADIDDLEHOPPER CAULIFLOWER MCPUGG SAN FERNANDO RED GEORGE APPLEBY This film collection is not authorized by Red Skelton or any other entity With: Red Skelton, Peter Lorre, Audrey Totter, Vincent Price, Amanda Blake, Frank Lovejoy (Goodtimes Home Video Corp., 1990) Running Time: 1 Hour, 13 Minutes RED SKELTON: THE LOST EPISODES NEWLY DISCOVERED COMEDY GEMS FROM TV’S PUN-NIEST PERFORMER OF MADCAP CHARACTERS! Originally aired in TV’s Golden Age, these rare sketches feature the quick-witted ad libber and comic genius of Red Skelton. This unique compilation begins with a 1959 monologue spun from the same fabric as a sack dress, the fashion rave of the day. It’s followed by a 1955 spoof of THE HONEYMOONERS, with PETER LORRE as RALPH KRAMDEN, the hearse driver, and Red as ED NORTON, who greets his wife with a pun of the year’s big song, “Let Me Go, Lover”. In 1959, CLEM KADIDDLEHOPPER wanders into Li’l Abner’s Dogpatch and, after goggling over Daisy Mae, decides to live high on the hog. AUDREY TOTTER (future co-star of MEDICAL CENTER) plays GEORGE APPLEBY’s wife in Red’s 1959 sketch about a frightened crime witness, and he can’t help but ad lib when he sees the hoodlum’s disguise. In 1960, master of the macabre VINCENT PRICE appears as an actor in need of boxing training from muddled-brain CAULIFLOWER McPUGG, who manages to steal the girl, do the cha-cha, and make sputnick [sic] jokes. The same year, Red, as SAN FERNANDO RED, enters politics with the help of AMANDA BLAKE (of GUNSMOKE fame) and an easily manipulated mayor played by BILLY GILBERT. A 1959, FREDDY THE FREELOADER skit, with FRANK LOVEJOY as the leader of a gang of bank robbers, will have you rolling as Red takes advantage of his sound effects crew in a slapstick sequence. Then Red closes this rip-roaringly funny compilation with his touching “God bless and good night.” It’s a comedy collector’s treat that the whole family can enjoy!
