This video is a report of the trip of His Majesty Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and Queen Soraya Pahlavi to Mashhad to inaugurate the Tehran-Mashhad railway and visit the shrine of Imam Reza (AS). In this archival report, the King and Queen travel from Tehran to Mashhad on the first passenger train on this route; a trip that, with the official inauguration of the railway line, puts one of the most important development projects in Iran at that time into operation. The official welcoming ceremony, the large attendance of the people, the pilgrimage to Astan Quds Razavi, and the start of the first Tehran-Mashhad passenger train are also depicted. The opening of this route provided the possibility of direct rail travel between Tehran and Mashhad and was an important step in the development of the transportation network, economic prosperity, and facilitating the travel of pilgrims.
