Before embarking on his long fieldwork starting in West Kalimantan, I will share insights from his reconnaissance across three key plant areas in Indonesia, home to unique species endemism valued in the plant trade. His research covers issues in plant hunting, reseller techniques, and the impact of value chain dynamics on sustainability, with a focus on conservation for species like orchids and Hoyas in forests and nurseries. This session will outline the multifaced approach to assessing plant populations in trade and in the forest. The challenges within the supply chain that increase overharvesting and the potential solutions for pilot testing projects.
