The tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS for short, monitors tire pressure while driving. If, for example, a tire is damaged and loses pressure, a warning light will illuminate on the dashboard. However, it's generally normal for even intact tires to lose pressure over time. Generally, there are two types of TPMS: Direct tire pressure monitoring systems measure the pressure via a special valve in the tire. This pressure is transmitted to the control unit via a wireless sensor. Indirect TPMS, on the other hand, measures the tire pressure via the ABS wheel speed sensors and ESP sensors. After a tire change with an indirect TPMS, the sensors must be re-learned via the vehicle menu. With a direct TPMS, however, you cannot avoid a workshop. The sensors are serviced and checked with each tire change. Furthermore, installation and removal should not be left to untrained individuals. Is the check engine light on in your car?
